We, the Executive Committee of Sikh Women’s Alliance had attended the launch of this epic biography of Bibi Balwant Kaur MBE as years earlier we had awarded Sikh Woman of Substance award to Bibi Balwant Kaur. We were greatly impressed at the detailed work of author Dr Harcharan Kaur Saggu, at the way she explained the spiritual and charitable life of late Bibi Ji who had inspired so many thousands of women and built the first Gurdwara monument in memory of Bebe Nanaki, sister of Guru Nanak Ji, our first Guru who had given Sikh women equality.

The book describes the life and work of Bibi Balwant Kaur Soor-affectionately known as simply ‘Bibi-Jee’ who spent many years in Kenya, India and the UK doing selfless service of the collective human family. This book is about the victory of the human spirit-once the human mind is calmed, it acts as a source of spiritual heat that warms up the cauldron of pure consciousness. Placed in this cauldron is the human spirit that then vapourises under this heat to meet with the greater spirit. Bibi ji imbibed God-consciousness with every breath she took.

The way in which she dealt with every challenge in life calmly and resolutely is the great message that the book brings out. Bibi jee is the grandmother we are all looking for-wise, full of kindness and generosity, a great teacher, a shoulder to cry on and full of great timeless advice. The book describes in detail the different phases of Bibi-ji’s life with the common thread running throughout of selfless service, prayer, meditation and ultimately come what may…everything always falls into place and will be OK. There are some intensely gripping moments in the book that relate to Bibi-Ji’s spiritual experiences with the Divine that leave an indelible mark on the reader. I couldn’t put this book down and whizzed through it in 2 days. It also contains many photographs from Bibi-Ji’s life events and family that illustrate the text well. I’d like to congratulate the author-Harcharan Kaur Saggu and doing a great service. I shall certainly be buying this wonderful gem of a book for family and freinds in the near future.
